Raymond Melanson of Melanson Electric & Safety tells us a few electrical tales on Friday the 13th.12/19/2013 Raymond grew up in Somerset, Mass and attended Diman Regional Technical High School for electrical. He resides in Swansea with his always understanding wife Donna and their 3 children. Ray is a Master Electrician and the owner of Raymond D. Melanson Electric & Safety. He is busy this time of year installing generators that are ready with a flip of switch when the weather turns bad. In the spring, he will jump into pool & hot tub wiring. This is in addition to commercial work as a National Grid vendor in the Energy Conservation Rebate Program to replace lighting in commercial buildings. He offers solar as well and is a Viridian contact. Ray is also the owner of Next Monitoring Medical Alert Systems. They offer 24hr emergency assistance with the touch of a button. With this company, the Melanson family gets involved in a lot of charity work assisting seniors and helping to keep them safe at home. Along with BCBC, Raymond belongs to various networking groups. Holly Stevens was born and raised in the Fall River/Tiverton area where she continues to live today. She has been married for 10 wonderful years and has the best 9 year old daughter. She has a crazy but loveable 1 year old rescue dog and a feisty 14 year old dog. Holly received her Bachelor of Arts degree in 2003 and Master of Social Work degree in 2007. She has been working in Adult Foster Care for about 10 years. In July 2010, Holly opened Beacon Adult Foster Care, Inc. She takes pride in helping adults with chronic health care needs maintain their independence and live in their own homes.
Sophia Friedman of Swansea Psychotherapy Speaks About Her Practice on Friday, Oct. 25th BCBC.10/30/2013 Sophia Friedman was born and raised in Europe in a country named Latvia, that at that time, was a part of the Soviet Union. The older of 2 girls in the family, she received a bachelors degree in computer science from the Latvian University. She immigrated to the United States in her mid-twenties with her husband and 5 year old son. Settling in Providence, they had their second child, a daughter, the first American citizen in the family. Sophia went to work at a computer center at a local hospital where she worked for 15 years and progressed to a management position. Discovering her innate abilities as a good listener and problem solver, she was guided to the field of psychotherapy by co-workers and friends (and also by divine intervention). As her children grew older, she entered graduate school at RI College majoring in social work. She completed the program in 2 years by going to school full time while working part time. In the 20 years since graduation, Sophia has had several positions from a community center to a major psychiatric hospital, from substance abuse treatment facility to private practice. Her focus of treatment is frequently stress management, anxiety & depression disorders & interpersonal relationships. Sophia is continuously increasing her skills by attending seminars, exchanging knowledge with colleagues, learning from clients, and exploring new fields of interest. He has lived in Fall River for 18 years with his wife, Monica and 4 children. He went to The Low School in Chile for 4 years, and then was hired by the Chilean Electric Company, where he worked in Customer Service for 6 months. He was then was promoted to the Marketing Department and within a year, Marco was promoted to the first head of that department. Marco decided to visit his mom in Newton, MA for vacation when he was 26 yrs old. He was so delighted with the city of Boston that he decided to stay for one month. A friend offered to him work while he was here, so he went to work at McDonalds. After 3 weeks, another other friend offered him work in a painting company. He liked the work and decided to stay in the U.S. His boss noticed his dedication, very good attitude and quality work, and eventually he asked his boss advice on how to go out on his own.
