Sophia Friedman was born and raised in Europe in a country named Latvia, that at that time, was a part of the Soviet Union. The older of 2 girls in the family, she received a bachelors degree in computer science from the Latvian University. She immigrated to the United States in her mid-twenties with her husband and 5 year old son.
Settling in Providence, they had their second child, a daughter, the first American citizen in the family. Sophia went to work at a computer center at a local hospital where she worked for 15 years and progressed to a management position.
Discovering her innate abilities as a good listener and problem solver, she was guided to the field of psychotherapy by co-workers and friends (and also by divine intervention). As her children grew older, she entered graduate school at RI College majoring in social work. She completed the program in 2 years by going to school full time while working part time.
In the 20 years since graduation, Sophia has had several positions from a community center to a major psychiatric hospital, from substance abuse treatment facility to private practice. Her focus of treatment is frequently stress management, anxiety & depression disorders & interpersonal relationships.
Sophia is continuously increasing her skills by attending seminars, exchanging knowledge with colleagues, learning from clients, and exploring new fields of interest. She continues to grow professionally and personally. Sophia uses various tools to help clients' short term and long term problems in her private practice with offices in Swansea and Providence. She accepts all major insurances.
